Stamford is situated 61 kilometres south of Hughenden on the Kennedy Development Road to Winton, dubbed the 'Dinosaur Way'. Named after the adjoining pastoral land 'Stamford Ham'. Stamford was originally part of the 'Katandra Station'.

Once a busy stop for wool graziers and Cobb & Co alike, the town of Stamford is now a much quieter place. Located 61 kilometres south of Hughenden on the Kennedy Development Road to Winton often dubbed ‘Dinosaur Way’.

This quiet slice of outback Queensland boasts an approximate population of one, so as you would expect it’s not the busiest neck of the woods, but once a year Stamford comes alive with the annual Stamford Races held annually each year in July. Many people travel to take in the unique outback horse racing experience, the charm and excitement of a real country race meeting. With over 115 years of experience under the Committee’s belt, the Stamford Races will be a special event for the whole family.
