Located behind Richmond Hill Drive on the road to Waste Plant. This area is where the Cemetery was previous located and where only the grave of Jeanette Tolano still lays today.
Jeanette Tolano was married to Phillip Tolano on the 17th January 1883 in the Great Synagogue, Sydney. The Tolano’s were a well respected family in Hughenden with Phillip opening a drapery store in 1880 in partnership with Lou Goldring. Jeanette was an only child and came from a Hebrew background. Much disappointment came to the family when she died on 13th November 18883 during childbirth; it is believed that the child is buried with her. Jeanette was only 24 years of age. Jeanette’s grave remains on the site of the old Hughenden Cemetery and was never moved due to religious beliefs. The Hebrew inscription on the grave reads:
“THE LADY SHAINA DAUGHTER OF REB ABRAHAM RODGERS
WIFE OF FEIVEL TOLANO
DIED ON 13TH AND WAS BURIED ON THE MORROW,
THE 14TH DAY OF CHESHVAN 5644. AGED 24 YEARS
MAY HER SOUL BE BOUND UP IN THE BOND OF ETERNAL LIFE” - Phone
